Chiefs rule out rookies Delane and Woods for the Jets
Both 2026 first-round picks will miss Sunday's game. Kingsley Suamataia is expected back at left guard after being benched at Denver.

The Chiefs will play the Jets on Sunday without either of their 2026 first-round picks. Cornerback Mansoor Delane (shoulder) and defensive tackle Peter Woods (neck) were ruled out on Friday's injury report, KCTV's Gabe Swartz reported, and Omarr Norman-Lott, last year's second-round pick, is out as well as he works back from a torn ACL.
Andy Reid said both rookies were improving and could be ready within about a week. "It's a strength thing right now," he said Friday, as SB Nation's Ron Kopp Jr. relayed.
Two rookies, two different problems
Delane's shoulder has bothered him since the spring. It first flared up during organized team activities, kept him in a non-contact jersey through training camp, and gave way again in Week 1 after he intercepted a pass and made a tackle; he played three snaps in his debut, KCTV noted. Sunday will be his second straight missed game. He was limited in practice all week.
Woods, the 29th overall pick out of Clemson, hurt his neck in the second quarter at Denver on Sunday and did not practice this week. His absence leaves the interior of a pass rush that has nine sacks in seven games, tied for fewest in the league, even thinner. Norman-Lott has been limited since the team opened his window to come off injured reserve, and SB Nation noted that next week is the last chance to add him to the 53-man roster.
Back on the field
The rest of the report is mostly good news. Travis Kelce (ankle) and Rashee Rice (hamstring and knee) were limited Wednesday, practiced fully Thursday and Friday and carry no game designation, and Patrick Mahomes (knee) practiced fully all week. Linebackers Nick Bolton (neck) and Drue Tranquill (pectoral) also have no designation. Returner Nikko Remigio was added on Friday with a hip injury and is questionable. Cornerback L'Jarius Sneed (knee) and running back Brashard Smith (hamstring) remain on injured reserve, by ESPN's listing.
The lineup change to watch is at left guard. Kingsley Suamataia was benched for the Denver game without a public explanation after practicing fully all week, and Mike Caliendo played all 69 offensive snaps in his place, ESPN's Nate Taylor reported. Reid said Monday it was not a punishment and called it a matter between him and the player. It was the second time this season Suamataia, a 2024 second-round pick, has been benched; he also sat in Week 4 at Las Vegas. Taylor reported that he is likely to return to the starting lineup against the Jets.
The other side
New York has ruled out receiver Garrett Wilson, its leader with 527 receiving yards, after a concussion, along with linebacker Trevin Wallace (groin). Edge rusher Joseph Ossai (ankle) and cornerback Nahshon Wright (back) are questionable, by ESPN's listing. Running back Breece Hall, on injured reserve since September, practiced fully Thursday and could return.
Kickoff is 1 p.m. Eastern at Arrowhead on CBS. Prices are on the game page, and the schedule is on the Chiefs page.
